What conditions do chiropractors treat?

Doctors of chiropractic are experts in treating conditions of the neck and back but also care for a large number of complaints involving muscles, tendons, and joints outside the spine.

What is a chiropractic adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is a manual procedure that utilizes highly refined skills developed in chiropractic school and through years of experience. An adjustment can be delivered by the doctor using their hands or an instrument. Adjustments are typically very comfortable and can be adapted to meet the needs of their patients. Adjustments are used to improve motion and reduce pain levels.

Why is there a pop?

The audible pop known as a cavitation is the release of gas from within the joint being manipulated. This is similar to the release of gas when your knuckles pop or when a soda can is opened.

Is chiropractic safe?

Chiropractic is recognized as one of the safest non-invasive, drug-free treatments for musculoskeletal conditions. Although chiropractic is highly safe, no health treatment is excluded from having potential adverse effects. Majority of patients feel relief immediately from chiropractic treatment but some may experience mild soreness lasting 1-2 days on average.

Will adjusting my neck cause a stroke?

Some reports associate neck manipulation and a rare type of stroke known as vertebral artery dissection. This type of injury is typically onset prior to the visit to a chiropractor and is usually the reason people seek health care in the first place. Vertebral artery dissections are associated with daily activities such turning the head while driving, swimming, or getting hair washed at the salon in people with pre-existing arterial disease. The best evidence indicates 1 in 100,000 (very rare) cases of cervical manipulation may result in stroke which is on par with the incidence rate of stroke among the general population.

Do I need a referral?

Most insurance plans do not require a referral.
